The Impact of Using Artificial Insemination versus Natural Service for Florida Beef Cows
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Estrous synchronization and artificial insemination (AI) are reproductive management tools that have been available to beef producers for over 40 years. Synchronization of the estrous cycle has the potential to shorten the calving season, increase calf uniformity, and enhance the possibilities for utilizing AI. Artificial insemination allows producers the opportunity to infuse superior genetics into their operations at costs far below the cost of purchasing a herd sire of similar standards. These tools remain the most important and widely applicable reproductive biotechnologies available for beef cattle operations (Seidel, 1995). However, beef producers have been slow to utilize or adopt these technologies into their production systems.

Effects of Natural Service and Artificial Insemination Breeding Systems on Pregnancy Characteristics and Weaning Weights
A similar proportion of beef cows and heifers exposed to estrous synchronization (ES) and artificial insemination (AI) became pregnant during the breeding season, compared with females bred via natural service breeding. Females in a breeding system that included ES and AI calved earlier in the calving season, compared with females bred with natural service, but no advantage was present for weig...

This study was undertaken to estimate the genetic parameters for some reproduction traits in Sistani beef cattle. The data set consisted of 1489 records of number of insemination, calving, and insemination dates in different calving was used. Reproduction traits including calving interval (CI), gestation length (GL), days open (DO), calving to first service (CTFS), first service to conception (...
متن کاملFactors That Influence Fertility in Natural and Synchronized Breeding Programs
Reproductive failure is a major source of economic loss in the beef industry. The majority of this loss occurs because cows do not become pregnant during a defined breeding season. Therefore, the goal of any breeding program is to maximize the number of females that become pregnant. This means that fertility plays a major role in the success of any breeding program. This review will focus on th...

Artificial insemination was used in an attempt to breed three groups of Brahman cross cows on two properties in north Queensland. On one property the attempt was abandoned due to low incidence of detected oestrus in lactating cows. On the other property calving rates following insemination were 20.8% and 16.4% over two years. Vibriosis was one cause of low fertility. Semen was collected satisfa...

Introduction The development of methods to synchronize estrus in beef cattle has been refined to a point that is feasible as well as reasonable to obtain pregnancy rates in mixed populations of cycling and anestrous cows that exceed 50% to a single fixed-time artificial insemination, provided a progestin based estrus synchronization protocol is used (Lamb et al., 2001; Kojima et al., 2002; Perr...
